Lynn’s Story: From chronic constipation to bowel freedom  — in just 12 weeks.
Lynne, a woman in her late 40s, came to The Gut Clinic following decades of chronic constipation. Her bowel function had become entirely reliant on stimulant laxatives such as Senna, Dulcolax, and Movicol. Despite regular use, her body had stopped responding naturally. Alongside this, she experienced regular migraines, low energy, severe bloating, and emotional overwhelm—often feeling fragile, frustrated, and hopeless.
She joined a 12-week gut-brain axis programme with the goal of restoring natural bowel movements, reducing reliance on medication, and exploring the emotional landscape of her digestive health.
Initial Presentation
- Constipation severity: No spontaneous bowel movements for many years without strong laxatives.
- Laxative use: Alternating between Senna, Dulcolax, and Movicol on a near-daily basis.
- Symptoms: Migraines (often weekly), chronic fatigue, brain fog, bloating, nausea, and disrupted sleep.
- Emotional health: Patterns of exhaustion, internalised stress, anxiety about being "blocked," and a belief that her gut was broken.
- Lifestyle: Limited physical activity beyond walking; diet was plant-based but not always digestively suitable.
- Barriers to healing: Fear of stopping laxatives, cycles of migraine disrupting progress, and a belief that nothing had ever worked.

Interventions Introduced
1. Supplement Support
- Marine Magnesium: Introduced and titrated up to 6–8 capsules per day to support peristalsis and nervous system relaxation.
- Metabolic Gold: Targeting energy, thyroid function, and mitochondrial health.
- Total Body Purge bitters: Introduced mid-program for liver and bile stimulation (despite causing esophageal burning at first).
- Additional support: Spirulina, Chlorella, Vitamin C, Milk Thistle to aid detoxification and inflammation control.
2. Nutritional Overhaul
- Fully removed gluten, coffee, and chocolate, all identified as migraine and digestive triggers. These changes over the next two months became significant turning points.
- Introduced:
- Daily grated carrot salad (for fibre and binding endotoxins)
- Pineapple and enzyme-rich fruits
- Structured eating times
- A shift toward easily digestible meals: soups, stews, and soft-cooked vegetables.
- Greater protein inclusion (tofu, eggs, fish) and fat balance.
3. Gut-Brain Axis & Emotional Support
- Worked on belief systems around being “stuck” emotionally and physically.
- Daily rituals of herbal teas (lavender, verbena, chickweed) to soothe the nervous system.
- Introduced foam roller breathwork, grounding exercises, and somatic stretching to support vagal tone and pelvic release.
4. Movement and Somatic Therapies
- Regular walking and restorative movement.
- Foam roller postural resets.
- Deep tissue massage and cupping, which uncovered chronic neck tension contributing to migraines and created a significant shift in her sense of bodily freedom.
Turning Point
An unexpected breakthrough occurred following a wisdom tooth infection, which required a course of metronidazole antibiotics. While she feared this would worsen her gut health, the opposite occurred: her bowels became more regular without stimulant laxatives. She added Optibac probiotics to protect her microbiome, and bowel movements continued to improve.
Subsequent tests revealed low secretory IgA, meaning that previous negative coeliac tests were unreliable. On full gluten removal, her migraines reduced by 95%, and digestive symptoms resolved significantly.
Outcomes
- Bowel frequency improved from zero spontaneous movements to 4–5 times per week.
- Senna use reduced to every other day or less.
- Migraines diminished significantly in both frequency and intensity.
- She regained control over her food, body, and emotional state.
- Felt empowered to pause formal support and explore the next stage of healing independently.
Lynne's case reveals the transformative potential of whole-body, intuitive healing. What began as a case dominated by pharmaceutical management became an empowered journey of reconnection—with her body, her emotions, and her autonomy. By addressing the gut-brain axis, organ-specific patterns, and structural imbalances, she transitioned from dependency to trust, from stagnation to flow.
This Isn’t Just Coaching.
It’s a Partnership in Healing.
